Flight review: Qatar London – Colombo via Doha

So as a savvy traveler I will spend hours looking for the best deal and for our flights to Sri Lanka Qatar came up the best having never flown with them before I didn’t know what to expect.

For our outbound flight I selected the 21.55  Qatar Airways to Colombo via Doha from London Heathrow. Qatar Airways is a member of the one world alliance, meaning Avios can be redeemed for award seats, and points collected for this flight, I also paid via My American Express so will earn more Avios through that. We arrived at the airport 3 1/2 hours before panicking about the m25 on a Friday, check-in took about 20 minutes and was easy once we got to the front of the que, the baggage allowance was a whopping 30kg each which gave us plenty of room to spare. I had pre booked our seats via there mobile app as I was travelling with my 2 children for a bit of half term sun so that was not a worry at check in, we went straight through security and grabbed a bite to eat before making our way to the gate.

when it was our time to board it was quick efficient & I was pleasantly surprised with the spacious comfortable seats & legroom. I was also really impressed with there amenities kit lip balm, toothpaste, socks, a really good soft eye mask as most airlines no longer offer this in economy.

the crew were really friendly and attentive paying special attention to my 8 year old son giving him a activity book as they passed refreshing wipes throughout the cabin before take off.

once we were in the air a menu was passed around

chicken and rice

beef and rice vegetables

or roasted vegetables and potatoes

They served the kids first which was great such a fantastic lunch box tray idea that my son kept his after as a lunch box souvenir, I opted for the beef and as far as airline food goes it was pretty good, there was a sweetcorn rice salad, bread, cheese, raspberry and white chocolate mousse cake. Drinks were served with our meal alongside soft drinks offered regularly during our flight.

The inflight entertainment was the only thing I felt let this airline down, as a awfully nervous flyer I find it hard to sleep so normally watch films for the duration, maybe it was just bad flight timing but the film choice was awful nothing I had heard of and a lot of old films like four weddings and a funeral, luckily there was a better selection of tv series and that help pass the hours.

All in all a very good flight with great attention to detail, I would definitely fly with Qatar again.
