Tegalalang rice terraces

Waking up early to visit the Tegalalang rice terraces is a magical experience and one of our favourite during our time in ubud. The countless layers of rice fields are spectacular especially at sunrise.

How to get to Tegalalang rice terraces.

The Tegalalang rice terraces is located about a 20 minute drive north from ubud. We used google maps to locate. As you get closer and drive up the road you will notice lots of cafes and touristy shops. Parking is a green sign on your left easy to miss.

Travelling around in Bali you have a couple of options. We recommend hiring a scooter you can hire them for between 55,000 IDR – 70,000IDR per day though if your having it for a longer period you might be able to negotiate a lower price.

If you are not confident on a scooter you can hire a driver for the day there all over the island and costs from 500,000IDR a day which is about £26.90

We also downloaded the GOJEK app which was a total lifesaver and cheep, for taxi.

Entry and experience

The walk was tougher than we had expected, man made steps from mud and bamboo bridges. Though I definitely think we walked the harder off the beaten track route.
Tegalalang is best visited in the morning the natural sun rays bounce of the rice fields making it a truly magical sight. We enjoyed the adventure and so glad we visited the rice terraces. The walk took us about a hour and we stopped at the top of the terraces to cool down with a drink at a local cafe, where the lovely owner provided us with fans as we sipped our drinks and took in the view.
